Saturday, February 19, 2005 Today, I set photography aside (well, sorta) and got caught up with life. A half dome of dirty clothes had arranged itself in the bedroom corner, the refrigerator had lost weight substantially (I hadn't), and my website journal was a mess. Outside was cold, drizzling rain. Good day to pass on the photo opps. To make a long story short, I did my chores, and while in Oakhurst in search of a laundromat with a restaurant next door (I found one, sorta), I stopped for a look at the David Ashcraft Gallery. Ashcraft is a fine art photographer, and he also shows work by other Yosemite regulars like Charles Cramer, William Neill, Michael Frye and Bill Atkinson (who currently has a show at Yosemite Valley's Ansel Adams Gallery). Ashcraft's gallery is in a complex of six art galleries, and is well worth a visit on your way to/from Yosemite. When I started building this journal website, I just dumped everything on one page. It didn't take long for that one long page to become a heavy download, so I redesigned it this afternoon. It's now a layered site with navigation links that can take you directly to any date without having to load all the others. It's snowing outside now, although since I'm living 2,000 vertical feet higher than the Yosemite Valley, it's probably raining down there. Both offer good photography opportunties, especially if the rain comes in showers with clearing and sunbeams in between. A fresh coat of snow on the valley floor would make my trip here complete (well...that and a legitimate sunset). |
